Nox Mobility launches its first night train between Hamburg and Munich in March 2027

Berlin, 23 September 2026 – Night train startup Nox Mobility puts Europe's first premium overnight service on the tracks starting March 2027. At InnoTrans in Berlin, the company today unveils its first completed coach and opens ticket sales at the same time. Starting 23 March 2027, the train runs three times a week in each direction between Hamburg and Munich, with stops in Bremen and Augsburg. One-way fares start at €65 and are bookable at noxmobility.com. On board, every passenger travels in their own “Nox Suite”: a workspace by day, a lounge to unwind in by night.

Hospitality on rails: Overnight travel, reimagined 

Nox Mobility is building a new category of travel, where stepping on board feels like coming home and the journey ends only once passengers arrive rested. On board, they find thoughtful design and the kind of service one would expect from a boutique hotel.

At launch, the trains between Hamburg and Munich are fitted with “Nox Suites”. Every passenger gets their own private space with a large seat, a table to work or eat at, room for big luggage, and power outlets within reach. In the lounge position, the seat unfolds into two metres of space to stretch out along the window.

At InnoTrans, Nox Mobility is also giving a first look at “Nox Rooms”, the future flagship product with fully private rooms for one or two people. “Nox Rooms” are set to join the fleet from 2029.

Nox Mobility is out to redefine short-haul travel in Europe, and that means rethinking the journey beyond the ride itself. Its own booking platform is set to grow into a one-stop shop for the whole trip, from showers on arrival to coworking spaces and hotel rooms. 

“Taking a night train in Europe still means sharing a cabin with four strangers and hoping the ride turns out to be bearable. With Nox, every passenger has their own space to work and rest in. A night on a Nox train should eventually bring together everything that used to take three bookings: getting there, staying the night and the morning at the destination,” says Thibault Constant, Co-Founder of Nox Mobility. “This is how we put hospitality in motion. The train is the heart of it, but only the beginning.”

One of Germany's busiest air routes gets its very own night train

Hamburg–Munich is one of the most flown domestic routes in Germany. In 2024, more than 1.2 million air passengers travelled between the two cities alone. For its launch, Nox Mobility connects two of the country's strongest business hubs and, with Bremen and Augsburg, picks up two cities that long-distance rail and air traffic have so far treated as an afterthought.

The first service runs between Hamburg and Munich with stops in Bremen and Augsburg, stopping at the main station in each city. The train leaves Hamburg at 21:22 and reaches Munich at 8:14 the next morning, stopping in Bremen at 22:30 and Augsburg at 7:35. In the other direction it departs Munich at 21:20 and arrives in Hamburg at 8:27, stopping in Augsburg at 21:51 and Bremen at 7:20.

“Anyone serious about moving mobility forward has to build attractive alternatives to flying, especially on longer routes. Night trains have a real role to play here: they connect major cities overnight, comfortably and with a lower climate impact,” says Dr. Anjes Tjarks, Senator of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. “The new Nox Mobility connection strengthens rail travel in Germany and Hamburg as a mobility hub. And as more European cities get linked overnight, Europe grows closer together on the rails too.”

Arrive rested, not half a day behind

For business travellers, travelling with Nox Mobility is a double win. According to the 2026 Business Travel Report by the German Business Travel Association (VDR), rail has overtaken air for domestic trips, driven by cost, carbon footprint, and travel time that can be used to actually work. Of the 116.1 million business trips made in Germany in 2025, most lasted one to three days. A flight can easily cost half a working day. Boarding in Munich at 21:00 and arriving in central Hamburg at 8:00 also skips the airport transfer, the security queue, and an extra hotel night.

Faster than the industry: 100 European cities by 2035

Nox Mobility was founded in 2025 by Simply Railway founder and trainfluencer Thibault Constant, FlixTrain project manager Janek Smalla, and mobility entrepreneur and investor Artur Hasselbach. In April 2026, the company secured €2 million in pre-seed funding led by IBB Ventures.

Five months later, the first completed coach is on show at the Berlin trade fair, and in six more it should be rolling on the tracks. That sets a new pace for an industry where new services typically take five years to launch. 

“Nox Mobility is building far more than another rail operator. What is emerging here is a travel category in its own right, alongside aviation and hospitality,” says Roman Pimonov, Senior Investment Manager at IBB Ventures. “We see enormous market potential, well beyond the first route.”
